Default Do I really have to buy any campaigns if all I want to do is PvP?

The subject says it all. I kinda don't feel like buying all the freaking campaigns and THEN have to buy a PvP Access Kit. I'm on a trial account and thats all I want to know, if I can just upgrade my trial to a PvP access account and just PvP as opposed to buying a campaign and then PvP access pack also.

I think you can buy only one campaign (the cheapest) and then the PvP unlock pack.

To be successful in pvp, you need access to all skills, which requires access to all campaigns. The pvp unlock pack will only grant you access to all the skills in the campaigns you currently own. You can buy the trilogy really cheap. I would suggest you follow that route.

And I would also suggest you doing some pve first before buying the skill unlock packs and then do some pvp with skills you have unlocked manually, that way you can be sure pvp is what you truly want to do. Don't want to buy the unlock packs and find out that you don't enjoy pvp as much as you thought you would.

I don't think there is a such thing as just a "pvp access account"

Good luck to you. ;-)

Ohhhh the reason why I ask is because in the knowledge base it says...

PvP Access Kit

Question

What is the PvP Access Kit available in the Guild Wars In-Game Store?

Answer

The PvP Access Kit that is available in the Guild Wars In-Game Store is an optional purchase that provides access to the follow.

PvP* in Guild Wars including all 10 professions
60 free unlocks
20 elite skills
20 normal skills
20 items

The PvP Access Kit can be purchased through the Guild Wars In-Game Store for $19.95** and used on an account regardless of campaigns that are associated with the account. PvP Access Kit purchases are non-refundable and non-returnable.

* Warning: Access to Roleplaying characters requires purchase of a Guild Wars campaign.

**Sales tax will apply to customers who reside in California, Texas, and Washington.

all you need is the pvp access kit. it gives you every single campaign's classes+skills, except that you cant pve.

the two above posters are getting confused with the pvp unlock pack which is completely different. the pvp access kit is the pvp game in its entirety, but you still need to unllock skills by gaining balthazar faction (earned in-game by simply playing). the pvp unlock pack allows you unlock the skills without having to earn any balthazar faction points.

in other words, if your that lazy to unlock skills yourself, get the pvp access kit + the pvp unlock packs. otherwise, all you need is the pvp access kit to have a fully functional pvp game (you don't need to own not even one pve campaign at all unless you want to pve).

one last note, the gw trilogy can be had for pretty cheap (i hear $20). so if your interested in pve as well, it wouldn't be a bad choice to hunt out some places to get a good deal on the full (pve+pvp) game.

This should work and will save you from buying a campaign you’re never going to play:

Download the trial from the guild wars website, go to the in game store and purchase the PvP Access Kit and PvP Item Unlock Pack (??17.98). These will give you all PvP areas, some basic skills and some equipment. If you want to have all of the skills as well you'll need to purchase each campaign’s Skill Unlock Pack.

The total cost for this would be ??35.95 (not including EoTN Skill pack and Core Skill Pack). While this is more expensive than the trilogy, you would have all the skills and equipment needed to jump right in whereas if you just brought the PvP pack you would have to unlock them first or play through PvE to unlock them.

It really depends on how much money you have to spend and if you’re willing to grind to unlock skills and equipment though.

Default Pvp only

Yes.. go to the ncsoft store....
There you can buy the PVP access kit...19.99$usd....this allows access to all character types...dervish, assassin, mesmer, paragon...etc.
It gives you 4 character slots...and a limited number of skills to unlock for free..... you can unlock other skills with Balthazar faction.. and such... or you can also buy skill unlock packs which open up skills for each campaign... for 10$
The idiots here that are telling you there is no such thing are the reason why GW sucks anymore... too many idiots who don't know crap about the game and aren't capable of a little research!

^no need to start name calling. the pvp access kit is relatively unknown mostly because: 1) the majority are interested in pve and 2) it can only be purchased online through the official store.
